Again talking about 2016. This is like having a debate about if a shark or a bear would win in a fight. It’s all speculation and while it might be fun it accomplishes very little.

It matters because we are back to where we were in 2016 except in an even worse spot. The Obama coalition is dead. Kamala's run as a centrist neoliberal failed. Just liked Clinton's did.

And while I am concerned the Trump adminstration is going to rig the system so that we don't have a real election in 2028, the leadership at the DNC needs to be burned to the ground. They refused to have an open primary. They repeatedly hand pick candidates instead of letting a process play out. And they've now underperformed 3 elections in a row. Yes, 2020 was an underperformance considering the circumstances.

Am I going to become the Black Sheep of the forum if I admit I'm actually excited to see what RFK can do with proper resources?

He has some unconventional stances and is obviously a bit of an odd ball, but I get the sense that he's truly well-intentioned and cares about all American people, and he’s the first person I’ve seen in a position of power wanting to focus on:

• Reducing ultra-processed foods in the American diet
• Removing harmful chemicals, carcinogens, and additives out of American food offerings
• Addressing childhood obesity and diabetes
• Potentially exploring alternative approaches to treating chronic conditions
• Investigating the impact of environmental toxins on public health

If effective, it’s an objective good to come out of a bad situation. Dare I say a good that would be far more impactful for the wellbeing of the American people than most of what I've seen from any sitting president in recent memory?

Bonus: He HATEESSSS Big Pharma and wants to take the fight to them for what they've done to Americans with predatory pharmaceuticals. Also a proponent of stuff like MDMA, ketamine, and psychedelic therapies.

I’d love for someone to take on the food industry and ultra processed foods. As someone with a kid with a sesame allergy, I now have to look at the ingredients in everything we buy and it’s wild how much shit is in everything we eat. I just don’t see RFK or Trump being the ones to prioritize that or try to make any of that happen.

But also making assumptions that had they only ran Bernie (a view I agree with to some extent) that things would have been different is purely speculative. While I agree what they did in 2016 and 2024 didn’t work Biden isn’t a Leftist either and it worked then. No leftist has ever been elected president. I would love to see one get an opportunity and maybe that will happen but at this point as far as actual wins go, you have Bill Clinton (twice), Obama (twice), and Biden.

You could make a more supportive point that Mitt Romney running as a Dem (yuck) would be a better candidate than you could than Bernie or another Leftist as things currently sit.

You can cite polls and statistics and antidotes but all that matter ultimately is actual wins and losses.

I think there is a point to be made that a leftist could blow up the system from within like a Bizarro Trump and inspire an untapped disillusioned voting block and ascend to the presidency while completely changing the Democratic Party in the process but speculation that Bernie would have been different doesn’t work towards that point.

I didn't read after I saw him post, just assumed based off what I've been reading here since Monday morning that would be the case.....Reading back now, no one said those exact words following his post but I wasn't far off

I also didn't do a deep dive into all the other things that have been said here, just the highlight for me which was one dude that came in HOT and started going off, just been kind of taking it all in. It is interesting for sure being a lurker here in 2020 vs. today.

I love everyone here. I also enjoy debating issues. I sincerely apologize if I have posted anything that you found belittling.

I think you have to say that the campaign running to the right and trying to attract Liz Chaney republicans was a failure. An abject failure. They got a lower percentage of the registered repuvlican vote that 2020 from the stats I’ve seen published.

Also running as the establishment defenders in an election where so many people are left behind and angry and the opposition is an agent of chaos who is absolutely not the establishment seems poor in retrospect.

I think had the dems only moved slightly to the left and showed a smudge of empathy towards Palestine they’d have attracted people that actually wanted to vote for them but maybe didn’t feel they could. Then they may have done better.

I think it’s difficult to place Obama. He was likely a progressive on social issues but it’s very difficult to paint him as an economic progressive in any way shape or form. In fact I don’t really know what he stood for in many ways, it felt like he rode in on a wave and message of hope following a dark 7 years but that there maybe wasn’t a concrete backing as to what that hope was about beyond his personal charisma.

I will also say that in an era of disparity and where we have extreme poverty still existing within nations with enough wealth to end poverty and still have greedy billionaires people at the bottom being angry and irrational and voting for nonsense because the status quo doesn’t benefit them isn’t on them, it’s on the status quo.
