Political Discussion

It’s a twitter alternative, without all the magat bots. A much nicer place than what twitter has become.

I deleted my Twitter account, just too many bots and jerks for me. Threads is nice but still part of FB. Bluesky has some great blocking features and other users have created lists for trolls and MAGA's angry "winners". It does require more effort to follow, engage with comments, and to build a following because their algorithm isn't built to sell porn and push lies and division. Within search there are grouped feeds too, you can add them to your main page like another tab. There's ones for new users, cat photos, science, film, TV fandoms, lots of furries, quite a bit of hanging dong, and other fun stuff someone may be into. With the blocking, I've found a really engaging community that feels like Twitter 10-15 years ago. There has been an influx of users and activity since the election, if you're looking for a way to still feel connected, or if your an ex-twitter fiend like Me, it feels like a better alternative.

Been avoiding reading political things the last week, but needed to hop in here and say this.

Honestly, my buddy who also works in elections but on the other side, also felt things were bleak for them. I think both sides were putting a lot of weight on the polls, which turned out to be inaccurate. Also, Dems were leaning into vibes, which also turned out to be horribly off.

I mean the polls weren’t though:

It was a little more than 2 pts. Within the margin of error for most of the polls. And this was pretty much the end percentage that every poll said while we were getting stories that they may have been weighed incorrectly.

I was hoping for the best but was not optimistic she'd win. I think a lot of people don't realize how racist and sexist people are in this country. Also the polls have consistently underestimated Trump voters. Lot of people in this country who seem to really not like him as a person but vote for him anyway.

No poll had her losing every swing state which is what occurred.

The EU is going after Apple yet again this week. This time over Geo-Blocking Restrictions in the EU.

Apple is geo-blocking certain movies, tv shows and music in the EU. The Consumer Protection Cooperation (CPC) Network in the EU is saying this geo-blocking appears to be unlawfully restricting access to content based on their country.

My first thoughts about this are, okay, so does that mean that region coding on DVD's and Blu-ray's is also unlawful and should go away? Can the EU even dictate this if there isn't a license agreement for the digital content in said country?

Last week the EU gave Apple two other warnings.

One about iPad Accessories. The Apple Pencil in particular. The EU says Apple has an unfair advantage because they make both the iPad and the Accessory. And this allows them to innovate new features and get them to the market before the competition. Such as the magnetic tap feature for pairing.

The second was about glass. The EU says one company has the monopoly on smartphone glass, Gorilla Glass I believe, and that Apple needs to diversify and use more than one supply for iPhone glass and can't exclusively use one supplier to increase competition.
