Political Discussion

A new session of the SCOTUS starts today.

And here are some of the big decisions they could make.

  • Whether or not domestic abuser gun restrictions are constitutional
  • Whether racial gerrymandering is legal in South Carolina
  • The power of federal agencies
    • Climate change regulation
    • Herring fishing quotas
  • Independent agency power: Consumer Financial Protection Bureau. (Could limit the power of or dissolve the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, which was put in place after the 2008 crisis to protect consumers)
  • First Amendment: Social media content (Whether or not social media companies violate first amendment rights by moderating content)
  • Agency regulatory authority: Securities and Exchange Commission (Again with limiting power and rolling back regulations)

These are just some of the note worth cases that we should all be watching how the court rules.

Republicans can't govern especially since they take their orders from Trump. Keep wasting time and maybe this will mean the democrats will flip the house again even though they've gerrymandered so many districts to make it almost impossible these days.

Of course two of these ding bats said they're going to nominate Trump for Speaker. Trump said in an interview he didn't want to do it, but technically you don't need to be a member of the house to be Speaker and with his legal troubles the political calculus might have changed. Why do we have to live during such stupid times?
