Texas needs money to keep the lights on during extreme weather. It’s funding more fossil fuel instead

Lot's of people still do not have power after hurricane Beryl. And the extreme heat and lack of AC is proving to be as deadly as Covid in areas that still do not have power.

TL/DR: Texas has not been investing in maintaining and upgrading their power infrastructure, and even after back to back storms caused wide spread outages and damage to their power grid, they have not funneled any additional money into repairs. Instead, all money is going into funding fossil fuels.

When the “TL, DR” is longer than the original comment you might be doing it wrong.

Another reason we're probably fleeing this state in 5 years after our youngest graduates. The state puffs its cow chest out about the amount of people and businesses moving in from "liberal states" like California. Meanwhile, we don't have a grid that can handle the amount of people moving in because we're not linked up with any other states because we're Billy Badass who can go it alone. We don't need the damn Federal Government so keep your hands off our state. Oh can you also bail us out with federal dollars every time we have extreme weather which is happening more frequently. We could lead the nation in wind and solar but they're so worried about offending MAGA that they'll only invest more in natural gas. Thankfully, we're not firing up new coal plants. But even with the new natural gas plants, we won't be able to meet demand. Meanwhile, our schools are not able to meet their needs because Covid funds ran out and they were not supported by the state government because they would rather do stupid private school schemes like vouchers to pay off their wealthy charter and private school donors. Affordability is gone at most levels now in housing. It's just a mess. And yet, the idiots here keep voting Abbott and Dan Patrick back into office. Oh and to whit, Texas is going full bore into bitcoin mining which is a further drain on the grid. I wish the brainwashed masses would wake up and realize these Republicans only care about their corporate masters.

I have a baseball trip upcoming in August with my brother to Denver. We have about 3 days there. It's probably going to be a scouting trip as well for me as the list of states and cities to look at moving to is going to start happening. We also have college trips out of state planned for my older one since she's now in her junior year of high school. That will also help determine where we might eventually end up. We've told our kids that as females they should not stay in a state that might stand in the way of them needing health care in the event they get pregnant, even when it's planned and something goes horribly wrong. This state is swinging hard right and it's not the state my wife and I grew up in.

I went to college in Wyoming, made many trips to Fort Collins (about 60 miles north of Denver, home of Colorado State University, and loved it there. Might be worth checking out.
